FOLK TALES
-------------------

Folk Tales is a collection of genre pieces in the sense that the term is used of paintings. It represents small-scale works that delineate typical social types in their surroundings and depends on accuracy of observation heightened by humour. A full range of metres is employed to do this, from the staccato trochaic diary of a pub grub and the pathetic hero-worshipping sapphics of a weak layabout, to the poisoned anapaests of a middle class gossip.

(FIRST STANZA)

That damned harassment training’s left me blind.
You say you often noticed me; I’m flattered;
but I’ve non-registered a good behind
so long; you passed my desk; you hardly mattered.
What matters now? We’ve met; I found you nice.
Ten vodkas plus some lager broke the ice.
